Endurance was created across multiple sessions, each exceeding an hour in duration, conducted entirely within the absolute darkness of a colour analogue darkroom. The work emerges from a sustained, repetitive act: the continuous folding and unfolding of photosensitive paper, each gesture followed by a deliberate exposure to light.

The process is one of accumulation and commitment. What begins as a precise, intentional sequence gradually transforms under the weight of its own repetition — the hands grow less certain, the folds less clean, the body more aware of its own fatigue. The instructions that govern each exposure, initially clear and manageable, become progressively harder to execute as time passes and darkness persists. It is within this degradation of control that the work finds its meaning.

Uncertainty is not incidental here — it is structural. As the sessions wore on, the inability to see, to verify, to correct, became a material condition as present as the paper itself. Each fold carries the memory of the last; each exposure compounds the unknown. The final images are therefore not fully authored in any conventional sense. They are negotiated — between intention and accident, between the body’s endurance and its limits.

Endurance asks what it means to continue — to repeat an action beyond comfort, beyond certainty, beyond sight — and what marks that continuation leaves behind.
